How it works

This is one common approach, not a rule. It follows the Starting Strength FAQ: two sets of 5 with the empty bar, then about four even jumps from the bar to your work weight, with reps tapering 5, 3, 2 before your work sets. Jumps are rounded to the nearest 5 lb or 2.5 kg, so they may differ slightly from hand-picked numbers. Source: Starting Strength FAQ.
